Discuss Planeta dos Macacos - A Guerra

So Maurice named the little mute girl Nova. Wasn't Nova also the name of the woman locked in the cell with Charleston Heston in the original movie? And wasn't she mute? So is that the same Nova? Remember the Rise of the Planet of the Apes ties in the Iccarus Mission and that NASA loses communication with them. So it would make sense to connect that story line if it is indeed the same Nova. Now having said that, it would appear that Nova would grow up with the apes and be a part of their family going forward.

And of course Caesars son Cornelius, which was the name of Roddy McDowells character in the original. I get that they just might be using similar names to pay an homage to the original series.

It doesn't - The Rise mission was one to Mars which got into trouble.

I get that they just might be using similar names to pay an homage to the original series.

That's pretty much it...

i thought it was really clumsy and overt. took me out of the movie.

The 1968 original happens many thousand of years into the future so it cannot be the same Nova. But if they plan to retell the original 1968 one in this series - as in the Icarus will rash in 15 years from now or so, then it may very well be her.

I think your idea is likely because why else put in the girl and name her so? She offered very little to the story and so this connection to the original storyline was possibly a larger argument behind her character.... plus Nova is a character used in the first two Planet movies, and also in Burton' take and also in the 70'ies Tv series.... so I would say that they are connected by more than just a friendly homage....

Naturally, we have to wait and see. If there will be no followup (likely there will not be), I say no because in such a case the "next" one is the one we got back in 1968... and in this time, Nova from War is long gone.... and who knows, perhaps the pet name "Nowa" to Monekys is the pet name "Max" to us humans.
